Midnight prayer, a ship I shoot toward star 
or satellite—
 
just so many ways to miss
to make a mess.
 
Sometimes I make a telephone call
suffice.
 
Make me a vessel of your grace, breath— 
but not this 
 
past electric 
and terrifying 
 
lightning:
 
we are all alight, ill 
and twisted wires. 
 
Hold me now 
through morning, as if I were your child.
 
Dawning prayer, the praise of the first songbird—how
 
he thanks you for even the blindness, he is so drunk with sight.
