Sequestration, 2022 Skip Snow 26”H x 21”W x 1”D Low relief wall sculpture Repurposed discarded sign board, wood, and paint. This abstract piece is loosely informed by photo micrographs of sphagnum moss cells. The sharp contrast of fictional white “plant cells” layered in an imagined black “carbon” matrix appears to suggest the process of carbon sequestration and formation of peat. Carbon sequestration is the process in which carbon is captured from the atmosphere and is stored in long term storage helping to defer climate change. Although peatlands make up just 3 percent of land on Earth, they store twice as much carbon as all the world’s forests combined.
