Liberation - Maria Leite
Watercolor and ink on paper
11" x 8"
This work is the result of my engagement in mindfulness and art-based approaches to cope with isolation during the 2020 pandemic. Each image has a written piece that reflects my perceptions of social and political events that brought additional unrest to a challenging year.
LIBERATION
Maybe it was not history returning
But awakening instead
Maybe it was never over
Maybe it was never dead
Men and women went to jail
Children lost their lives
Where is love what did we do?
Did we believe their lies?
To all unsung heroes
To all sung ones
The fight is not over
Our fight is not done
A vírus keeps killing
But it’s not alone
Another Black life lost
Under a white knee bone
