Last Keepers of the light - Jonathan Barrow

Before my great-grandmother passed, she would tell us her childhood tales growing up at Bodie Island Light. She was the daughter of the final Keeper of the Bodie Island Lighthouse (before it was automated in 1939-40) and spent much of her childhood in and around the lighthouse. This picture is of my twin sister descending the same stairs my great-grandmother would have climbed daily as a kid. It was great to connect with her and be reminded of the stories of her childhood, such as riding mattresses down the stairs after having sleepovers at the top.
