My work as set designer prepared me to engage in process-oriented work using a variety of visual media. From reading the play to discussing the scenic space with directors, actors, and technicians, my set design practice allowed me multiple opportunities to create art through the association of technique experimentation, research of a particular context, or the mere inspiration from unexpected sources. The images in this show are the result of a very simple process in which I used Sketchbook app to draft initial ideas, and subsequently reproduced each one in a larger size using acrylic paint on brown paper. The main intent of this work was merely practice abstractions of human figures on paper in form of preliminary study for larger scale pieces.
